“The Museum Experience.
Between individual Identity
and cultural Narrative.”
I just finished writing my Master Thesis on the Individualisation of the Museum Experience. I consider museums as potential enablers of individual empowerment, self-development and agents for change.
I startet my research process by taking a close look at the history of museums and exhibitions and put them in context of the existing studies on the visitor and his experience. The identity of the institution is as complex and diverse as the society it wants to serve. A chapter on the postmodern individual- his needs, fears and desires – and the individualisation of society reveals that museums are extraordinarily well suited to provide meaningful and educative experiences in our time and age.
To give an example of how to put knowledge into practice, I created a concept for a web service called “Turator” offering the possibility to design highly personalised, digital Museum- Tours for visitors as well as curators. Please feel free to try out the prototype for the mobile Version of the “Turator” Webservice at the bottom of this page.
